Economic and investment cooperation between Ukraine and Israel
According to the State Statistics Service of Ukraine in 2021 the total trade turnover between Ukraine and Israel amounted to 1.367 bln USD and increased, compared to 2020, by 34% (in 2020 –907.3 m USD). Exports amounted to 1.1 bln. USD and increased by 36% (in 2020 – 710.2 ln USD), and imports - 265.2 m USD and increased by 26% (in 2020 – USD 197.1 m USD). The positive for Ukraine balance of foreign trade in goods and services amounted to 837 m USD.
Trade in goods
The volume of trade in goods in 2021 amounted to 956.1 m USD. nd increased, compared to 2020, by 23% (in 2020 –734.5 m USD). Exports amounted to 731.1 m USD and increased by 29% (in 2020 –563.5 m USD). Imports also increased by 24% and amounted to 225 m USD (in 2020 – 171 m USD). The positive for Ukraine balance of foreign trade in goods in 2021 amounted to 506 m USD.
The main export commodity groups from Ukraine to Israel in 2021 were: grain crops (38% of total exports); ferrous metals (23% of total exports); food industry residues and waste (7% of total exports); fats and oils of animal or vegetable origin (6% of total exports); wood and wood products (4% of total exports); alcoholic and soft drinks and vinegar (2% of total exports); nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery (2% of total exports), ferrous metal products (2% of total exports).
The structure of Israeli exports of goods to Ukraine: various chemical products (29% of total exports); mineral fuel, oil and products of their refining (18% of total exports); оptical, cinematographic apparatus (10% of total exports); plastics, polymeric materials (7% of total exports); electric machines (6% of total exports); edible fruits and nuts (4% of total exports); pharmaceutical products (3% of total exports); nuclear reactors, boilers (3% of total exports); products of vegetable processing (2% of total exports); products of inorganic chemistry (2% of total exports); fertilizers (4% of total exports); tanning extracts (2% of total exports).
Trade in services
The volume of trade in services in 2021 amounted to 411.4 m USD and increased, compared to 2020, by 58% (in 2020 – 172.8 m USD). The growth was due to an increase of 60% in exports of services, which amounted to 371.2 m USD (in 2020 –146.7 m USD). Imports amounted to 40.2 m USD and increased by 35% (in 2020 –26.1 m USD). The positive for Ukraine balance of foreign trade in services amounted to 331 m USD. The main types of services from Ukraine to Israel in 2021 were: services in the field of telecommunications, computer and information services (63% of total exports); transport services (32% of total exports); travel-related services (3% of total exports); business services (2% of total exports).
The main types of services from Israel in Ukraine in 2021 were: transport services (58% of total exports); royalties and other services related to the use of intellectual property (13% of total exports); services in the field of telecommunications, computer and information services (15% of total exports); business services (3% of total exports); travel-related services (3%, of total exports); state and government services (3% of total exports).
Investment cooperation
According to the National Bank of Ukraine, direct Israeli investments (balances on direct investment instruments) in the economy of Ukraine as of 31.12.2021 amounted to 100.2 m USD.
The main areas of application of equity instruments for Israeli investments in Ukraine by type of economic activity were: information and telecommunications (14.7 m USD); real estate transactions (7.8 m USD); industry (3.8 m USD); processing industry (3.7 m USD); arts, sports, entertainment and recreation (2.9 m USD); wholesale and retail trade (2.7 m USD).
