On March 6, 2014 at the Ukrainian Cultural Center the event dedicated to the celebration of the 200th anniversary of Taras Shevchenko was held.
At the beginning of the evening Ambassador of Ukraine to Israel Gennadii Nadolenko noted the topicality of the great Ukrainian poet’s works today. The Ambassador also presented an exhibition of reproductions of Shevchenko’s paintings.
Report on "Taras Shevchenko - poet, revolutionary, national" was presented by Prof. Wolf Moskovich from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
The head of the community "Ukrainians in Israel" Svetlana Glaz read poetry of Israeli poet Ivan Potemkin dedicated to Taras Shevchenko.
The choir of Ariel "Basher lev" performed songs on Shevchenko’s poems and other music and poetry works at the evening.
At the end of the event documentary "Gene Liberty" was demonstrated. The movie presented little known pages of Shevchenko’s life and showed value of his works for the modern world.
