In the course of his visit to Israel with a view to participate in the farewell ceremony of Nobel Peace Prize laureate, President of Israel (2007-2014) Shimon Peres, President Petro Poroshenko had a series of bilateral meetings.
The Head of State, inter alia, met with President of France Francois Hollande, President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė, President of Croatia Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović and President of Romania Klaus Iohannis.
The President of Ukraine also held meetings with Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi, Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau and Prime Minister of Slovakia Robert Fico.
President Petro Poroshenko held negotiations with Prime Minister of the Netherlands Mark Rutte.
The parties commended preliminary results of the JIT’s investigation into the MH17 tragedy. Petro Poroshenko and Mark Rutte emphasized the importance of completing the investigation and bringing the perpetrators to justice. In this context, the Dutch Prime Minister informed that the Russian ambassador had been called to the Foreign Ministry of the Netherlands.
The President drew attention to the necessity of preserving unity between the EU countries for the continuation of sanction pressure on Russia until full restoration of Ukraine’s territorial integrity.
Mark Rutte noted the importance of prompt provision of the visa-free regime for Ukrainians.
The parties coordinated efforts to accelerate the ratification of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU.
In the course of the visit to Israel, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko had a meeting with Patriarch Theophilos III of Jerusalem and visited the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.
“Your prayers are very important for Ukraine,” the Head of State said.
Petro Poroshenko thanked His Beatitude for the support of the Patriarchate of Jerusalem in the implementation of the aspiration of Ukrainians to unite in a single national Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church.
In his turn, Patriarch Theophilos III noted that “the mission of Church is to unite, not divide”.
He informed that he prayed for peace in Ukraine.
In the course of the meeting, the parties discussed the results of the Pan-Orthodox Council, which was held this summer on the island of Crete.
The Head of State invited Patriarch Theophilos III of Jerusalem to visit Ukraine.
