In the framework of the official visit to the State of Israel, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin held meetings with the Prime Minister and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu, the President of Israel Reuven Rivlin, the Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman, the Minister of Environmental Protection of Israel, the Minister of Jerusalem Affairs and Heritage, the Chairman of the Israeli part of the Joint Ukrainian-Israeli Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation Zeev Elkin.
The sides discussed a wide range of topics of bilateral relations and prospects for cooperation between the two countries. The Head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry informed his counterparts about the situation in Donbas and thanked the Israeli side for its continuous support of Ukraine on the international scene, in particular, during the voting on the resolution "Situation of human rights in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol “ on November 14th in the Third Committee of the UN General Assembly.
During negotiations with the Prime Minister B.Netanyahu, P.Klimkin stressed the importance of the recognition by the Israeli side of the Holodomor of 1932-33 as an act of genocide against the Ukrainian people and said: "We hope that the recognition of the Holodomor of 1932-33 as an act of genocide will be supported by our friends, among which, undoubtedly, is Israel."
One of the priority matters on trade and economic cooperation between the states is the completion of the negotiations on the Free Trade Agreement between Ukraine and Israel. It was emphasized during a meeting between the Minister P.Klimkin and the Chairman of the Israeli part of the Joint Ukrainian-Israeli Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation Z.Elkin."I hope for the revitalization of the negotiation process and the completion of the text on the Free Trade Agreement between Ukraine and Israel by the end of this year" - said P.Klimkin.
The Minister P.Klimkin discussed a number of questions concerning bilateral cooperation during meetings with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Tzipi Hotovely, the Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Israel Yuval Rotem, the Speaker of the Knesset Yuli Edelstein, the Deputy Speaker of the Knesset Tali Ploskov and the Minister of Education Naftali Bennett.
The Minister P.Klimkin attended the memorial complex “Yad Vashem”, Mount Herzl, The Western Wall in the Old City of Jerusalem, and met with Patriarch Teophilos III.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine gave an interview to journalists of the leading Israeli media outlets.
