Today, February 20th, Ukraine honors the Heroes of the "Heavenly Hundred", who changed the history of our country and gave their lives during the Revolution of Dignity, defending the European future of Ukraine, the ideals of democracy.
The Revolution of Dignity began with peaceful protests on November 21st 2013, as a reaction to the government's decision to suspend the process of preparation of the signing of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the European Union. The Ukrainian people started protesting actions to uphold democratic values, their rights and freedoms, and to support the European vector of Ukraine's foreign policy. Events have turned into a major uprising of Ukrainians against the pro-Russian government controlled by the Kremlin.
On February 20th 2014, the confrontation between the Ukrainian people and that regime reached its peak. During this day, during the Revolution of Dignity in Kyiv, troops shot down protesters. In total, the number of victims reached up to one hundred people per day. Subsequently, all the protesters who died during EuroMaydan and during the period from February 18 to 22, 2014, called the "Heavenly Hundred".

The Heroes of the "Heavenly Hundred" were awarded the title of "Hero of Ukraine", three foreigners who perished during the Revolution of Dignity were posthumously awarded “The Order of the Hero of the Heavenly Hundred".
On February 11th, 2015, with a Decree of the President of Ukraine No. 69/2015 "On honoring the feat of the participants in the Revolution of Dignity and Perpetuating the Memory of the Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred" sets a special commemorative day.
“The Day of the Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred" is celebrated annually on February 20th with the purpose of remembering the inspirational national feat of great human, civil and national courage, dedication to nationhood and belief in a better tomorrow.
