Dear Sirs, Madams,
On behalf of the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Ukraine in the State of Israel Mr. Hennadii Nadolenko, I would like to address you on the occasion of the “Innovation Synergy Ukraine-Israel” event during Agritech-2018 exhibition.
Let me express the confidence that this event will serve for the future strengthening of Ukrainian-Israeli mutually beneficial relations, especially in the sphere of agriculture.
I’m pleased to note the dynamic development of the entire complex of Ukrainian-Israeli relations. Ukraine attaches special importance to the development of cooperation with the State of Israel, our important partner and reliable friend. Geographically, Ukraine and Israel are not neighbors. However, political, economic, cultural, human interests know no distances.
Over the period of 26 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries, an active and regular political dialogue on the presidential and inter-governmental levels as well as an intensive inter-parliamentary cooperation has been established. In such a short historical time, we managed to achieve impressive performance:
- we continue active political dialogue at bilateral and international levels;
- our trade and economic relations provide bilateral trade up to 1 billion US dollars annually;
- our humanitarian and cultural ties are successfully developing;
- we maintain fruitful inter-ethnic dialogue.
We consider that the significant impetus to bilateral relations in recent years was achieved due to the established personal relationships at the highest level, the active inter-parliamentary cooperation, the meetings of the joint intergovernmental economic commission, renewal of the legal basis of bilateral relations and intensive exchange of visits at various levels.
At the end of this month we are expecting the visit of the Head of Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Mr. Andriy Parubiy to Israel.
The significant coincidence of interests on the international scene, mutual support and, what is the most important – mutual trust and openness, gives both sides the firm basis for the confidence in reliable future of the relations between Ukraine and Israel.
Israel is an important and promising trade and economic partner of Ukraine in the Eastern Mediterranean region and in the Middle East. I am pleased to mentioned, that last year we managed to overcome of the negative trends in our trade and services turnover, which reached almost 1 billion US Dollars.
According to the State Statistics Service of Ukraine, in 2017 the total trade turnover made US $ 973.4 m. and increased by 13 % compared to the previous year (in 2017 - US $ 861.3 m.). Export made US $ 781.4 m. and increased by 18.6 %, while import – US $ 192 m. and decreased by 6.1%. Positive for Ukraine trade balance was US $ 589.4 m.
The main exports from Ukraine to Israel were: cereals (46,5 %); ferrous metals (25.9 %); oil seeds and oleaginous plants (7.9 %); food industry by products (4.8 %); wood (1.7%), oil (1.6%) and milling industry products (1.2 %).
From these figures, we see that more than 60 % of Ukrainian export to Israel constitute agricultural products. That’s why we can highlight agricultural sector as a priority for bilateral relations.
Main imports from Israeli to Ukraine were: various chemical products (39.8 %); mineral fuel, oil and products of their refining (9.2 %); plastics, polymers (8.6 %); nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery (5.5 %), electric machines (5 %); pharmaceutical products (4.4 %); and goods procured in ports (6.2 %).
The implementation of the Free Trade Regime between the two countries, negotiations on which are already finished, will contribute substantially to the development of bilateral economic relations. This Agreement will mark the elimination of last barriers on the way of free flows of goods, services and capitals. We hope that the full text of this Agreement will be ready for sighing in next few weeks. From our point of view, signing of this agreement gives the excellent opportunity for the visit of the Prime Minister of Israel Mr. Benjamin Netanyahu to Ukraine on the invitation of the President of Ukraine Mr. Petro Poroshenko.
We also awaiting that new impetus to our bilateral economic relations will be given during next session of our Joint Intergovernmental Commission on economic cooperation which is scheduled for the 14th of June 2018.
Let me express hope, that participation of Ukrainian delegation in Agritech 2018 exhibition will open new perspectives for the Ukrainian-Israeli cooperation in the sphere of agriculture.
I would like to wish sincerely to all of you fruitful work at this exhibition and success in all yours undertakings.
Thank you for attention.
